Antique pine wood coffer, trunk, chest or box: whatever you call them, this is an unusually tall one; almost counter height. Made around 1900 probably, with dovetailed corners, plinth below and overhang above. The lid is attached with hand made iron strap hinges. Good warm colour. Brass keyhole escutcheon. There's a working lock but alas, the key is broken! The bow (the grip part) has come off the shank so it can only be turned with pliers. I think we can weld it but not sure yet. Meanwhile I've removed the lid catch because this lock is one which automatically locks when it's closed. Condition is pretty good structurally: it's solid and sound; cosmetically there are various scuffs, marks and dings but not much. It's had woodworm in the past, particularly in the lid (see pics): all treated for good measure. There are some gouge marks under the lid front where someone has tried to open it forcibly. no doubt when the key was last lost.. Dimensions: 101cm x 59cm x 87cm high
